A great deal of time and effort has gone into producing a puppy for you. A copy of each of the parents’ clearances is included in your puppy package so you can be certain that all necessary clearances were done and that they have achieved all the results necessary to produce a quality puppy. We take great steps to ensure you get a good quality, healthy, and well-socialized puppy that adheres to the breed standard that you can enjoy as a new family member for many, many years. It is with this in mind that we outline the guarantee for our dogs.
First and Foremost, we INSIST that IF it ever becomes impossible for you to keep the dog, that it is returned to us immediately… shipped COD if necessary. This dog is NOT to be re-sold, OR given away to anyone, any organization, puppy mill, back yard breeder, pet store, rescue group, HumaneSociety, wholesaler or donated for any auction. Please contact us and let us know that the dog is coming so we can make arrangements to pick it up, house it, and have it vet checked before we bring it home. ( and ensure its shots are current before exposing it to our dogs )
We are placing the puppy with you, with the understanding that it is becoming a member of your family, not chained or kennelled out doors, but living IN your home WITH you. We also want to make sure that the dog is not running at large or in a position to be attacked by another animal.
We want to impress upon you, that your dog COUNTS on you to take care of his/her basic needs, housing, feeding, grooming, regular vet checks, and training classes to ensure your puppy is properly socialized. To neglect ANY of these areas is to abuse your dog and I will come and remove the dog from your home. I hope that this never becomes necessary, as I feel I have screened all the puppy buyers thoroughly and that this should not be a problem.That being said, it is my intention to be a source of help and information as your puppy grows, but if it becomes apparent that the dogs’ basic needs are not being met, I must put the dog’s needs first, since I am responsible for bringing them into the world and placing them in your home. To me, this is a huge undertaking, which I take very seriously until the day the dog dies.
Hip Dysplasia is a problem that plagues our breed, and although we have selected breeding stock that is free from any problems and rates a GOOD or EXCELLENT, it is still possible that it may occur. To prevent this from happening, there are several things that YOU, the pet owner can do:1) Never allow your dog to become overweight/obese 2) Do not engage in any jumping activities (fly ball, over exercise - running behind a bike, running on a leash, walking too far etc.) until after the puppy has reached the age of 18+ months of age 3) Never allow your dog to ride in the back of a truck loose 4) Feed a quality large-breed puppy/ dog food to ensure they grow into their body slowly, thus reducing the chance of hip/joint problems. We recommend Royal Canin Large Breed Puppy Food / Adult Food and Golden Retriever25 for adults. There are many quality dog foods on the market that promote slow growth, if these are not available in your area. If you require assistance selecting a good quality dog food for your dog, please contact me and I can help you navigate the pet food industry and select a food that is right for your dog. There is new information out all the time, with the latest concern being a lack of Taurine in some Golden Retriever's diets, that causes Taurine deficit in your dog. This is one of many serious issues your dog can develop if not given a good quality food that is correct for our breed. If ANY of the previous requirements are not followed we will NOT warranty the dog.
IF the puppy develops SEVERE hip dysplasia, we require a copy of the diagnosis from a certified radiologist along with a statement from the vet that he/she found the puppy in good physical condition. ( see above, the dog should NEVER be in an overweight/obese condition as this will void your warranty ) We will replace the puppy with the next suitable litter, at the time the effected dog will need to be transferred to our care and we will take care of his/her needs as they arise. IF the puppy is found to have a MILD or MODERATE form of Hip Dysplasia, we will not replace the puppy unless it was purchased as a “Show Potential” puppy. The dog must be returned to us and we will replace the puppy. IF you want to retain the puppy, and opt to care for it yourself, other arrangements can be made to ensure your are compensated up to HALF of the purchase price of the dog with SEVERE cases of Hip Dysplasia ONLY. ( requiring surgery ) MILD and MODERATE cases, with proper vet care, your dog should be able to live a long life with some modifications to their daily life, and possibly medication.
The puppy comes to you after receiving a complete vet check, IF you think that the puppy is not in good health when you receive him/her please take him/her to your vet WITHIN 48 HOURS and contact us immediately if the pup is found to have a contagious condition that they may have had while here at our home. This is important for several reasons, one to protect you (to not void your warranty contract), to ensure the puppy is treated promptly, ( therefore having the best chance for a successful treatment ) and ensure that if the condition was present while the pup was here that we can contact the other owners incase it is necessary for their pup to seek treatment as well.
Your dog is being sold to you, with a Canadian Kennel Club (CKC) registration and on a CKC Non-Breeding agreement. It is essential that it is followed to the letter, IF you have purchased a dog as a “Show Potential” the non-breeding agreement can be lifted once the dog/bitch has had 1) hip & elbow xrays done with certification from a recognized board certified radiologist at 24+ months (OFA certification date) 2) the dog/ bitch has been certified by a registered Ophthalmologist stating that they are free from ANY/ALL genetic problems 3) The dog/bitch is certified clear from SAS or other genetic heart conditions by a Board Certified Cardiologist 4) the dog/ bitch meet the breed standard for Golden Retrievers as outlined in the Golden Retriever Club of Canada (GRCC) breed standard - photos showing the structure of the dog/bitch standing, front, back, head shots and side view are required and can be sent with the copies of the health clearances above 5) The dog/bitch has obtained a Canadian CKC Championship ( in some cases, this last condition could be waved but the conditions under which this will be changed need to be discussed in advance )
IF I find that you have NOT followed the CKC Non-Breeding agreement and have bred your dog (this includes : allowing your dog to be bred - running at large intact etc. ) without following the previous guidelines a $5000.00 fine will be imposed. It is our intention to prevent any dog from ending up in a puppy mill, back yard breeding program or as a supplier to a pet shop or pet wholesaler, or unwanted at the humane society or rescue group.
